Liver problem and its related issues

Liver problem is defined as any condition that causes liver inflammation or tissue damage in a liver and affects liver functions. The liver is a vital organ that is located in the upper right side of the abdomen. It is as large as a football, and it weighs 2 to 3 pounds. It performs numerous functions for the body: It convert nutrients derived from food into essential blood components, store minerals and vitamins, regulate blood clotting, produce proteins and enzymes, maintain hormone balances, and metabolize and detoxify substances that would otherwise be harmful to the body. The liver makes such factors that help the human immune system to fight with infection, removes various bacteria from blood, and make bile which is essential for digestion.

Bile is a greenish yellow fluid that consists of bile acids or salts and waste products such as bile pigments. This bile moves to larger ducts from the smaller ducts. Then eventually converge into the common bile duct and excite the liver. Some of the bile flows directly to the duodenum and rest is stored and concentrated in the gall bladder. When a person eats, the gallbladder releases some of the bile that was stored into the small intestine for helping it to digest fats.

Liver disease can be categorized both by the cause and the effect it has on the liver. Causes of liver disease may include injury, infection, exposure to drugs or toxic compounds, a genetic defect or an autoimmune process that leads to the build-up of damaging substances and deposition such as copper or iron. Effects of liver disease may include scarring, inflammation, obstructions, liver failure and clotting abnormalities.

The most important treatment of all the treatments for liver disease is prevention. There are lots of vaccines available for hepatitis A and B. Liver inflammation may take sometime to resolve. There are many chances of liver damage that can become permanent. Treatment of liver disease may involve minimizing further damage and complications, protecting and supporting remaining liver function and addressing the cause of the damage. The treatment for liver problem may start from medication and leads to surgery in severe cases such as liver transplantation. Patients who have liver problem will often require long term monitoring and constant advice of a good doctor.
