Different Liver Problems

The largest internal organ of the body is hard to ignore and you can imagine well the state of the body if it is dysfunctional. Mainly liver's job is to metabolize the nutrients of the body, store the essential nutrients and produce proteins. Additionally it detoxifies the blood of the body by clearing the toxins and pushing them towards the excretory systems.
The contact of liver with the harmful substances is very often, thus it can be protected in two ways. Firstly, the regeneration is possible through the replacement of injured tissues. Secondly, there are other cell units in the liver that can perform the same task. Thus if the area is damaged, there are other cells that can replace the functionality of the injured tissues.
There are various types of liver ailments such as hepatitis, liver tumors, cirrhosis, liver abscess (puss in liver), etc. The medical terminology for the liver diseases is Hepatic disease, where hepatic means the Liver. The liver dysfunctions are usually followed by Jaundice, which is appearance of yellow color of eyes and skin. It happens due to bilirubin, the breakdown of hemoglobin from the red blood cells.

When there is an inflammation of liver, hepatitis is the usual result. It is due to viruses, dysfunction of autoimmune system and alcohol usage as well as due to certain hereditary conditions. Cirrhosis is a state where there is a disposition of fats in the obese persons. It is also known as fatty liver disease. It might also happen that the dead cells are replaced by the fibrous tissues and replacement instead of healthy tissues is by the viruses and liver toxins.

Liver cancer is also of varying level. Metastatic cancer is caused by other organs in the body like the gastrointestinal tract. Another type is the hepatocellular carcinoma. A hereditary disease known as haemochromatosis is a rare liver disorder. Wilson's disease is due to the excessive storage of copper in the body.
There are some general symptoms of liver malfunctioning such as fatigue, weakness, mild or strong abdominal pain and loss of appetite. These usually appear at the first stage of the liver diseases.
